Obama and Holder continue the dumbing down of America

The Dayton Police Department is lowering its testing standards for recruits. It’s a move required by the U.S. Department of Justice after it says not enough African-Americans passed the exam.

Dayton is in desperate need of officers to replace dozens of retirees. The hiring process was postponed for months because the D.O.J. rejected the original scores provided by the Dayton Civil Service Board, which administers the test.

Under the previous requirements, candidates had to get a 66% on part one of the exam and a 72% on part two.

The D.O.J. approved new scoring policy only requires potential police officers to get a 58% and a 63%. That’s the equivalent of an ‘F’ and a ‘D’.

This is ridiculous! Even more disheartening is that this story seems to have been skipped over by MSNBC. Don't know if Fox covered it or not, but I've haven't seen ANYTHING about it on the news. Why not? Shameful, and shameful.

Incredible, just deny it or try to justify it if you deny it??!!

The story is true. My brother works for the D.O.J.

It is embarrassing for us minorities.

Also, why and what does FoxNews have to do with this??!! wow.

Sadly, this is a good seed!

You can not raise the performance by lowering the bar. By lowering standards and requirements we are removing any incentive to strive for better performance. Thus hurting those you are trying to help the most. With the unemployment situation as it stands one would think it would be easier to recruit qualified persons and raising the bar would be a way of getting the most qualified. This type of political BS blunders just reinforces my 2008 feelings that the current administration is inexperienced, unqualified, and completely delusional.

As an African American and a person who has been in law enforcement over 25 years, lowering the standards just to admit a certain group of people is wrong. When I took the entrance exam for my agency, the maximum score was 116. My score was 113. While in the academy I finished in the top 5% of my class academically. If they don't meet the minimum qualifications, they shouldn't be hired no matter who they are. The field of law enforcement in a dangerous job that requires more complex skills than ever before. In order to learn and master these skills, a person must pocess the aptitude to do so. The city of Dayton will be taking a great risk trying to make Police Officers out of people that may not be able to master the basic skills not to mention specialized skills. If the state of Ohio is like the state I live and work in, all recruits must take and pass a state certification test in order to be certified as a law enforcement officer. If they can't pass the Dayton entrance exam, it's doubtful they'll make it through training and certification. This means the city will have wasted tens of thousands of dollars on recruits that may never see the street. As for those who criticize affirmative action, it was put in place so that people like myself who were QUALIFIED for a job got a fair shot. Without it, it is unlikely I would have ever had the opportunity to work in law enforcement. There is still racism in this country both overt and covert, but this is no excuse to "lower the bar."

This is not anything new people. A long time ago, I took the civil service test for a policemen in Columbus. I scored a 91.5 with no added points. The first class of recruits consisted of 4 whites and 21 minorities ...who had scores all the way down to 60....and all of them had points added to their scores to get to that amount for being black. This was by court order since the city was found negligent in hiring minorities, when in fact, the minorities just couldnt pass the tests so they hired less qualified to serve and protect the public all in the name of being "stylish". Of course, later, the women got in the act and got the city to lower their requirements even more for them. My certification, good for 2 years, was negated and I was asked to get re-certified at the lower standards. needless to say....I felt if that is how the city and the police acted, I didn't want any part of it so I went in another direction.
